About the Project

"The Civil War In St. Augustine" is a digital archive of manuscript letters, journals, reports and other materials created by Union soldiers, Confederate soldiers, and civilians that wrote about the conflict and key events in St. Augustine, FL. Manuscript transcriptions and subject terms are searchable. Metadata reflects both digital editions of manuscripts and physical locations of original series and items in the St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library. Document items can also be browsed by index terms that sort and connect materials by a particular date, place, person, year etc. Terms are also organized in a subject index, organized by topical subjects, persons, regiments, and places.

Editorial Note

All texts are transcribed according to their original form, but certain placenames/person names have been modernized or corrected as subject terms (Picolati to Picolata, Charlestown to Charleston, John Dickinson to John Dickison etc.). Feel free to search historical and modern forms for results.
