Description
W.C. Middleton's 1862 journal concerning his travels, daily routine and challenges as a member of the St. Augustine Blues and 3rd Florida Regiment. At the start, he details events surrounding the Union occupation of St. Augustine on March 9th and 10th, 1862, and the subsequent relocating of the Blues to New Smyrna. Throughout the journal, Middleton details major events in the war: The Siege of Corinth, Robert E. Lee's victory at Manassas, Stonewall Jackson's taking of Washington, and St. Augustine native Kirby Smith's successes at Cumberland Gap, in Lexington, Kentucky, and Richmond, Kentucky. His entries span 6 months, as the St. Augustine Blues travel between Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.
